Alexander and I both turned a year older last week and we escaped to the country for a weekender...
Back in 2009, when Stu and I were newly in love, we spent a wonderful weekend at the Old Dairy B&B up North in the Upper Hunter Valley region. I must have been feeling nostalgic because that's where we headed for on the weekend and surprise, surprise, not much has changed.
It was like time has stood still all these years. We may have changed, but the Old Dairy hasn't; there's that same old rustic farm house, those gorgeous views, the lone dirt road, the familiar sense of seclusion, the sense of truly being away from it all.
Alexander was surprisingly comfortable in his new surroundings and was
keen to explore the property and took much joy in pointing out the
tractors and trucks we saw along the way. We enjoyed picnics in the sun and long walks in the countryside where we saw cattle grazing, wild kangaroos hopping and roadside wattle glowing in the evening sun.
I couldn't think of a better way to celebrate our birthday weekend. I know there will soon come the day when Alexander will want his own 'big kid' birthday party but till then, I'll hang on to the peace and quiet of the weekend past.
