Little indulgences (when I'm home alone)

Stu's preparing for yet another business trip to China...his nineth trip this year. I must say I've gone from dreading being home alone to actually looking forward to having some quality me time. I've figured out that when Stu is away, it is the perfect time to do a few things that I otherwise may not indulge in. Here are a few of my not-so-guilty pleasures when I'm home alone (and bub is fast asleep)...
Watch trashy TV. The Bachelor, Snog Marry Avoid, Pawn Stars. ANTM, just to name a few. You name it, I secretly love it and watch with abandon when Stu is not around.

Order home delivery. I can't be bothered to cook for myself so it's either three minute noodles or a little treat of takeout. There's something really nice about hopping onto Eat Now, picking out my favourite dishes I want (Thai, usually, but sometimes, it's Chinese, Indian or pizza) and pre-order it online. I usually am clever enough to time the order so it coincides with Alexander's bedtime, so once I've tucked him into bed, I simply open my front door and Tada! There's a warm meal ready for me.

Pamper night.  As soon as Alex hits the sack, I run myself  nice warm bath, fill it with aroma oils and gleefully get in! While I'm in there, I apply my facial mask and just close my eyes and relax. I follow that with hair treatment mask, and sometimes also a manicure and pedicure and always, lots of obsessive hair brushing.

Makeover time. I play with makeup and experiment with different looks when Alex goes to sleep (as you do!). And while I'm at it, I play an old childhood favourite game of dress up, and try different outfit combinations to see what works and pull funny faces in the mirror.

Online window shopping. I get quite a lot of enjoyment from browsing online stores and adding things to wishlists for myself and for others. I feel a bit guilty doing it when Stu is around (even if I'm not actually buying anything!), so I save it for when he is away. Besides it's great for when I'm actually researching a gift for him.

What do you do when you're home alone?

PS: You can catch me over that Vanisha's today!

My husband has to take the occasional business trip and I also take the time to do things for myself when he's not around. I like to catch up on my trashy tv too :)

Ah, sounds really nice... I do pretty much the same thing, but I do choose to cook something rather than order (but also make sure I buy some kind of treat, too) :)

I like watching trashy tv too, lol! I also enjoy online window shopping. I enjoy looking at shoes and purses :)
I also fix ramen noodles for myself while hubby is away. Not the most healthy food, but I really enjoy it, just a me thing after the kids have gone to bed.

The pamper night sounds most appealing to me! If only I had a bathtub in my place...

Such wonderful ideas, Trishy - I think I might have to steal a few! My Mr. travels frequently, too, and I am always trying to find things to do when he is gone. I love how you pamper yourself when he is away - a good time to take advantage of slathering up with creams and lotions so the Mr. can't make fun of me! I love that you order take-out, too! I totally love your ideas. Hugs xo Karen

A cute photo of yourself! (is that you?) I'd do all these things too, especially the pampering. I'd do my nails. I watch my shows all the time when he's around, so no biggie for me. I am the one who travels so I wonder what indulgences my husband partakes in when I'm gone. Maybe I don't want to know ;).

Me too!

I love to pop some popcorn, watch super trashy ditsy shows, and cruise Etsy to my hearts content.

Haha oh gosh. I am definitely guilty of the online shopping, but I also feel more comfortable about it when Tal's away (even though he would never guilt trip me about it). And like you said, so much easier to gift-research without sneaking around!

Snog Marry Avoid! Haha, that's a crackup! I too like to abuse my senses with tv series, it's incredible how quickly you can watch an entire series on DVD when there's no one around! I'm also a massive fan of pumping the stereo loud and pretending to be a rock star :)

I love having nights to myself as well - paint the nails and watch all the entertainment channels on tv the bitchier the better :)

Oh, I adore this post! As much as I adore my Mark, I do enjoy these decadent times when I, too, can watch chick flicks, don a face mask and dance in the family room to girl band tunes. :) T. http://tickledpinkwoman.blogspot.com

I call this Secret Single Behavior. Even though we're not single, I revert to my single-days habit of folding my laundry on the other side of the bed. And leaving it there instead of putting it away, and slowly pulling from it. Those days are gone, but when he's away I take my time putting away my folded clothes!

I quite enjoy having an at home spa day (relaxing shower or bath, cleansing from head to toe, and maybe polishing my nails) when my husband is away sometimes :)

Yup, the same - scary facial mask, trashy TV that Derek won't watch, & lots of internet surfing/window shopping. Another thing I would do is to eat my scary Asian food...which Derek doesn't like haha... like black soy sauce dishes or teoh chew muay type thing...

Yes. I am actually used to hubby travelling now. He flies almost every other week so I can have tv to myself when the kids not watching. And can online more often too. Once a while when he is away, I will go for facial or detox session.

I can relate to that. When my husband is away either overseas or interstate, I usually cook Asian food (mostly fish) and freeze it for my whole week's meal. And I spend my evenings yapping on the phone to my sisters in my native language. But I like little indulgence like long baths as well.

Enjoy your weekend
