Winter essentials for baby

Alexander has just experienced his first winter month and I must say it has been a bit of a learning curve for me. From when the temperatures started dipping, he started to wake up crying in the middle of the night because he was cold. Despite my experimenting with layering of his clothes and setting timers for the heater, I still couldn't get it right. Then his skin started to dry up and got all itchy and I would find him every morning with fresh scratch marks all over his face. And don't get me started on the sniffles....

But thankfully, I've finally got everything under control and we are ever so ready to weather more chilly days and nights ahead. Today I would like to share with you my top picks for baby at wintertime.
Winter essentials for baby
Ergopouch 3.5 tog sleepsuit bag - After weeks waking up multiple times in the middle of the cold night to turn the heater on whenever bub cries, I was desperate. Then I put him in the ergopouch and voila! He slept through the night. It is worth every single cent. Fabric is a soft cotton fleece which keeps bub comfortable and happy. Love the long sleeves and the fold down mittens too.

Little Innoscents winterblues vapour balm - Poor little A got the sniffles one week - I knew it caused him great discomfort as he would unlatch while breastfeed just to gasp for air! To provide relief, I rubbed this beautiful smelling (think rosemary, peppermint, lemon, eucaluptus) balm on the soles of his feet and cover with socks, as well as on his chest to help clear his nose. I use it with confidence knowing that it is completely free from nasty petrochemicals.

Vanessa Megan Bubba bath and massage oil -I found that bubble baths (though fun and all) to be too drying for bub's delicate skin this time of the year. This bath oil, on the other hand, is super hydrating and smells absolutely delightful. Confession: I've used it in my bath too...it is so relaxing!

Mustela Stelatopia emolient cream - Alexander always had dry skin but in the last month, it got drier - to the point where eczema appeared on his cheeks. I tried a number of lotions and creams but this is seriously the BEST. I apply all over his face and body twice daily and his skin has never looked better or felt softer.

Aden and Anais mum + bub soothing ointment -  This is a great all purpose ointment that I use as a barrier cream on bub's cheeks to prevent contact with drool, milk, food which may cause irritation. Also when he was scratching lots when his skin was dry, this ointment worked really well to help with healing.

Oooo...that is not good he was that cold, glad you got it under control. Funny my friend and I were at the beach a few weeks ago and it was HOT and this women was walking her VERY YOUNG baby in a stroller with NO covering and this baby looked hot and I think may even had sun burn, my friend and I were sort of shocked. Yep babies are not like adults.

Haha this made me LOL! Oh boy randomly capturing non famous people in shot unintentionally is not a paparazzi you should have said "No I am not a paparazzi, you are a photo bomber" haha.

I'll def bookmark this for next winter. Charles' first winter as a 2-3 month old bub were not too bad - we put him in the living where the gas heater and humidifier were on 24/7 (our gas and electricity bills were phenomenally high!!). But Charles is now in his own room with a regular aircon type heater so we shall see how that would work this Nov/Dec... The ergo baby sleeping suit looks great!

I'm a big fan of Mustela too. We're using the hand and body soap, the no rinse liquid, body lotion and the vitamin barrier nappy rash cream. The sleep suit is definitely a must have. I'll check out the other items.
