His favourite toy

Meet Ellie. She has (clearly) seen better days, but that's because she is Alexander's favourite toy. Like seriously, she is the. Most. Favouritest. Ever.

Alex is so attached to Ellie to the point where he screams when she falls out of the cot, and he wakes up and cries multiple times at night when she's been in the wash and is hanging out to dry. Since he was four months old,  Ellie has been his constant source of comfort. He chews on her to self soothe and places her over his head as he puts himself to sleep. He giggles every time he sees her. And even though I bought other completely identical 'Ellies', he knows they are not the same.
When I was little, I too used to have a favourite object/toy that I was dearly attached to. I still remember it; a cream coloured baby bolster pillow that I would chew on and suck on and cuddle to sleep. It had a really...unique and wonderful smell (but only to me) and I would cry buckets whenever it went in the wash because it would take days for it to smell right again.

Stu had Goggi. It looked a bit like Humpty Dumpty and was handmade by his Grandaunt Martha. It had a green and white body, orange arms and legs and brown buttons for eyes. Stu's mum told me he used to wail unconsolably and point at Goggi when it was hanging on the hills-hoist to dry.

Do you remember your favourite toy?

oh my gosh. he looks so adorable in the pic! :) i had a favorite toy that used to drive my mom nuts. it was a woody woodpecker stuffed toy that i used to just alway shave with me and of course put in my mouth. my mom used to wash it but then got so tattered. one day she threw him out but told me that he didn't survive his "washes". oh poor woody woodpecker :)

Aww Ellie looks very well loved :) My favorite toy was a Snoopy doll that I had to take everywhere. His nose has been reattached a few times and I still have him.

Awww Ellie is such a cute little toy and Alexander looks so happy with her :-)

I got a Paddinton Bear when I was born, I've still got it today. I've also got a Santa my great gran made for me the year I was born, for my first Christmas and I've still got him! Both are probably my favourites as I've still got them hehe :-)

I love it! My eldest had 'silky teddy' a similar cloth with a bear head, and she still makes sure she knows where he is, she's 8! My twins also had 'silky bears', they've lost their hats and been stitched up a heap of times, and little miss 2 has 'silky piglet'.. can you see a theme there? lol It seems like they'd die without them but they all grow out of it, that sleepover at the grandparents when they leave the silky at home may seem like the end of the world, but mine have all survived, they still all love them though :) I still have a plush monkey that I had as a baby, he looks as old as me too!!

@loz, oh I love that all your children have one and they still love theirs. How wonderful you still have your plush monkey. Wish I kept my pillow!

This is totally embarrassing but I still have my favourite toy... definite keepsake for life. And can you call this his first love?

Yeah I had a little teddy bear called Ted (imaginative I was no?! lol) and I still have him. Though I always wanted to pass him along to my children I had no idea they might gnaw on it. I might have to reconsider this hahaha!

@sonia, Ellie is not the most imaginative name for an elephant either! Your comment made me laugh.

ahhh so sweet! I don't remember my exact favourite toy (had a few) but I remember my little brother's favourite toy it was this weird giraffe with paddle like feet and hands to chew on. He fell to bits so mum bought an exact replica but kids definitely know when you're trying to do the old switch-a-roo!

You can see how much he love it.

Trishie, your pictures are so adoarble - absolutely wonderful! What a fun and creative idea for a post - my favorite toy was a teddy bear named "Walter" - still have "him" although all that hugging made him almost fall apart at the seams!
Hugs to your cutie pie of a son!
All the very best,
Andrea

So funny my favorite toy was an elephant too! But it was rubber. It was white and sitting up with the trunk curled up and wearing an orange and blue shirt. I think it was meant to be like a circus elephant. I took him everywhere and cried if I did not have him. Eventually it got hard and cracked : ( but this was over the course of a couple of decades. Otherwise we would have kept him.

He looks so happy! How adorable. My favorite toy growing up was a small dog plush that my dad's friend passed down to me. I used to carry the plush with me everywhere I went and even sprayed perfume on her for "special occasions," which meant just taking her along to the market. Haha.

Ellie sure is a lucky stuffed animal to be loved so much! I had a favorite stuffed animal too and it became so beaten up that my parents had to make clothes for it, so that it wouldn't fall apart.

What a sweet little guy (Alexander, that is)! :) I did have a toy I was attached to as well: BoBo Bear. Unfortunately, my little brother grabbed it away from me and threw it into a campfire. Very traumatic for a three-year-old! Oh well--guess I got over it. ;) Hugs, T. http://tickledpinkwoman.blogspot.com

My favorite was this little gray teddy bear that played a lullaby and who was named Smokey.

I still have him. He has seen better days too but then again I received him for my first Christmas when I was less than 5 months old.

Hahhaa, wow! Her face has really been chewed up! I still have toys from my baby days but more like toddler days i think. I have one that I got when I was 3 and I'm 20 this year. My mom made it a point to keep certain toys so that I'd still have them now! Your son looks sooo happy!

This is such a sweet post. I think every kid should have a favorite toy/companion like that! Mine was a hankie apparently (refused to let my mum wash it haha) but when I was four I had a green tortoise stuffed toy that I would not part with. We slept with a cuddle blanket and put it in Charles' cot and we hope he would take to it like an Ellie. :) he has his favorite toys like a teething set of plastic keys and a red Ferrari but they are not cuddly! Love the photo with Alex and Ellie - heart melting stuff awwww....
