Makeup tutorial: 1960s 'Love Child' look

Have you seen the Australian TV series Love Child? It's a drama set in 1969 in a fictional King's Cross home for unwed pregnant girls and is based on the real life forced adoption in Australia. It's heart wrenching, addictive and poignant all at once but it's not just the storyline that I love, it's also the fashion and the gorgeous hair and makeup that has captured my heart.

I've fallen hard for it, so much so that I asked my makeup artist friend Claire to show me how to create the 1960s look that rocked that era - think strong brows, winged eyeliner, and bright lips. My blogging buddy and talented photographer Samantha came by to help document the session.
1.  Start with sheer to medium coverage base all over face.

2.  Using a small brush, blend a bit of Illamasqua Skin Base Lift in "Light 1" under the eyes to brighten the skin and conceal dark circles. Layer and blend as needed.
3. Using an angled brush, fill brows with Illamasqua eye brow cake in "vehement", starting with just a little then add more and blend to create a stronger, more dramatic look.
4. Using a gel or liquid eye liner in black to create the winged eye liner.
5. For my eyes, Claire used Glam by Manicare "Mila" lashes. Tip: Trim the length of the strip to size for comfort and a softer and more natural look.
6. For lips, use a lip brush to colour in Illasmasqua Satin lipstick in "Glissade", which is a gorgeous deep yet bright shade of pink that complemented the rest of my make up. As it is highly pigmented and quite creamy, a light layer was all that was required. Rub lips together for a more natural finish.
7. For my cheeks, Claire brushed on a soft pink powder blush on the apple of each side my face, blending towards the cheekbone.

8. Lastly, Claire styled my hair into a low side pony and curled the ends. Then she added a headband, and the 1960s look is complete!
What do you think? Will you be trying out this look too?

Love these! Red lips are so you. And I also love era series. Every decade seemed to have such a defined style I wonder if looking back at 2010s people will be able to pin point a 'style'...
