Eight months

There's a Chinese saying 日新月异 (pronounced ri xin yue yi), which means everyday, there are new developments and that every month, something changes. And I think it couldn't be more true when applied to a little baby. Just not too long ago, Alexander was all brand new, so helpless and utterly dependent on me, now he's an expert at rolling, sitting and is learning how to stand. He expresses his emotions well, laughing, giggling, crying, furrowing his brows even. Everyday he changes, and everyday I learn more about this cool little dude.

One day he's lunging forwards and back at an attempt to crawl. Then before I know it, he's chasing Frankie down the hallway. One minute he's playing quietly by my side, the next he's on the other side of the room chewing on a cable (naughty!) or Frankie's toy (eeks! I know).

Watching him grow is so bittersweet. On one hand, my heart swells with pride as he gains each new skill yet the other part of me wants desperately to cling on to his babyhood. Juju wrote this wonderful post here about how it all goes by so fast and how we should slow right down and enjoy each little moment of motherhood. And I couldn't agree more with that.

PS: Did you have a lovely Mother's Day? I celebrated my first Mother's Day with Stu, Alexander and my in-laws. And because it was also a belated birthday celebration for Stu and his father, it was an especially happy occasion. We lunched at our favourite local restaurant and I bought one of Ben and Jerry's famous ice cream cakes for all to enjoy. Needless to say, it was yummy!

Yeah! Happy Mother's Day and happy 8th month to Alexander.

to me, it is not a pleasant stage for both baby and parents. Thank god that my two older kids had pleasant transition during their 1st years, but unfortunately Jamie is differrent case. More demanding, feverish and crankier than his older siblings. Headache! Lol.

He's soo adorable, like I always say haha! It's so nice to be able to see him grow from what you post here on the blog! Last time it was only photos of him on the bed and then he's on his tummy and now he's sitting up! Luckily I still have many more years ahead of me before I have to go through the bittersweet emotions :) Belated Happy Mother's Day to you! :)

Hi; I'm surprised to read you used "日進月歩". Yes, Japanese use that idiom as well. And I can guess your feeling you explained. Your Alexander is SO adorable♡♡♡
I am happy to hear that you had a wonderful Mather's Day♪♪♪

Have a wonderful week ahead, dear Trishie;

Sending you Lots of Love and Hugs from Japan, xoxo Miyako*

Happy belated Mother's Day to you Trishie. It us funny how sometimes we want them to grow and reach new milestones yet want to hold on to the babyhood as long as we can. He will always be your sweet baby no matter how old he is.

Enjoy every moment of it while the little guy is still a baby. I wish my kids are still babies but I have to face reality they're in their teens and soon they'll fly and be independent. I still can't believe my daughter will be in second year college soon.

Hugs to little Alexander. I have followed your blog since you were single. Then you got engaged. Got married. Had a dog, then got pregnant. ...and now, your little guy is 8 months old. (I hope I inserted Frankie at the right timeline. hehehe)
