Ideas for our dream home: exteriors

I know it was only a couple of months ago when Stu announced there will be "no more home renovations". But...we've already started thinking about future plans for our growing family. At the moment, we're leaning towards a complete re-build as (believe or not) it is likely to be cheaper than an extension of our current home. This means there are loads of exciting possibilities for our dream home!

So lately, there's been a lot of idle daydreaming. Thinking about what we love, what would work and of course lots of time spent finding inspiration on Pinterest. Here are some ideas we found for our future dream home...

I do adore the look and style of an old fashioned bungalow, it looks traditional, symmetrical and very homely.  This one below is just so pretty and looks a lot like the houses I drew as a child with with its distinctive decorative gables.

I'm also loving the idea of a bold statement door. Isn't it just wonderful how the bright yellow of this one contrasts so beautifully with the bright white?

Next thing I want for my dream home is terracotta roof tiles. Loving these earthy red ones from Monier. Looks beautiful against the bright blue Australian skies.

And finally, if we manage to find the dollars for it. I would really really really like a little plunge pool. This semi-indoor one below is perfect, it will keep the leaves and rain away yet allows for plenty light to shine through on a sunny day.

The first house looks great! I don't have a particular dream home; I probably would never be able to settle on one particular style... Can't wait to see what you finally pick as your new home.

That yellow door is like a little post of sunshine. My dream home would be a spacious condo with a view and lots of amenities in Manhattan.

I wouldn't mind that swimming pool.

I love the houses you picked out and I do also love the statement door. The pool is a nice touch too. I would have to have a guest room and perhaps a kitchenette for that room. Just so guests close but not too close! I would want a small soaking pool or hot tub.

Planning to build your dream home sounds so exciting. I absolutely love the house in the first picture.

Great pics! My fave is the first one (I'm somewhat into traditional design). I think my dream home would be a brick Victorian or Colonial--fully restored with all the bells & whistles. :) T. http://tickledpinkwoman.blogspot.com

Wow. I really hope you'll be able to build this dream house one day. I'm sure it'll look super lovely! I love bright coloured doors as well. They seem to give more life to the exterior of the home :)

I love the first house! My dream house would be similar to that. White wooden floors with white furnitures and spacious backyard with lots of flowers.

That door is so cute. Agh, I am so undecided on my dream home, I think I go back and forth on it weekly. Which is probably a good thing that I'm still renting right now

Nice inspiration photos! A plunge pool would be so awesome! My dream home is an old farmhouse with loads of charm and character. I love old houses! We had an awesome 1914 bungalow when we lived in the city, but now we have a newer construction home in the country.

I'd love to have that pool! The first house is gorgeous. However, we now currently live in a large two story home. And it is probably a lot of people's dream home but it isn't turning out to be ours. We'd prefer to have a larger one story with a fireplace that is seen from both the living room and the covered back patio. Three car garage too. Basically, we'd like a house that is large enough to raise our family but small enough to retire in. Probably more than you wanted to know! Have a great weekend.

The first house is so beautiful, homely and nothing better than a large porch, love that yellow door.

I'd have to agree that the first house looks amazing from the outside.

Having just moved into my first bought house, I'm quite excited about the changes we are going to make to it in the coming years. It's kinda small but does us.

Hubby's first plan is to get a pond in the garden, I'm looking forward to all the wonderful wildlife it will bring :-)

Your choices are beautiful Trishie, I'd love a big wrap around verandah but it's not something you find in the UK - the weather doesn't really make it useable.
I'd love a pool, it would have to be indoor and heated to suit our climate and again not something we'll ever have!
Doing a whole building project is hard work but so worth it - keep saving pictures and ideas until the time comes.

We have the same bold door idea, and that yellow door is perfection!

Oooo love the look of that swimming pool! A semi-outdoor pool is such a great idea. I think a brightly coloured door is also fun and whimsical.
