Four months, baby

It seems that at four months, Alexander is finally waking up from a deep sleep. Gone are the hazy days of drifting between eat and sleep. Yes...my baby is now wide awake, so much more aware of his surroundings. He watches everything - the ticking of the clock, moving images on TV, flowers, leaves, the prints on my clothes, even the food that we're eating. He has become this little person, with his own funny way of laughing and sweet gummy smiles.
He has also more than doubled his birth weight and getting stronger by the day. He does his mini push ups everyday and even manages a roll or two! He grabs and hangs on to things now (my hair included!) and puts them in his mouth for a taste and drools like crazy.

Also, he LOVES his bath times. When I'm bathing him, he'll kick and splash around with wild delight. But when it's Stu, he'll tilt his head and just stare adoringly at his Daddy dearest the whole time. Stu has this trick where he makes a funny "beep beep" noise, and Alexander will just crack up. It makes me melt.
I love talking to Alexander and this may sound like crazy, but sometimes I think he understands what I'm saying. Like one night while I was feeding him, I whispered "Alexander, I love you. You're the best baby I could ever wish or hope for." As soon as I said this, he unlatched from my breast, turned and smiled at me. Oh it gave me goosebumps! I really think that babies understand a lot more than we give them credit for...do you agree?

He's beautiful. I think they can sense your mood :) Do you lie him in a normal bath with only a couple inches of water? My kids all loved it by that age, splashing and kicking :) Feels like so long ago x

Alex is adorable!! I don't have children but I am sure that they do understand what we mean, or maybe if they don't understand the words they understand the feeling. Enjoy your beautiful boy xx

What a handsome little man! Your writing brings back so many memories for me, there is such a special bond, such magical little moments that give life meaning in a way nothing else can! And it is so nice to see that you truly cherish these moments, that you stop and take the time to notice even the smallest things...you are a wonderful mother! :) Chrissie x

Such sentimental post, moments like this you will forever remember. He will always be your baby no matter how much he grows. First year flies by so fast you wont believe it.

Awww, look at that smiley face. I love watching babies grow into that smiley phase where they're figuring out what is really going on and less focused on eating

Alex is gorgeous! I used to talk & sing to my baby too. My mom-in-law said I'm crazy, but babies can understand us. It's real important to communicate to them when they're still babies. Wish time stand still.......

Your baby shares your DNA and a spiritual connection to you, which is why he understands you. Such a cute little boy. Iove his chubby cheeks.

Awww! I completely agree that they can understand us, at least somewhat, at a very young age. they can certainly understand our tones and get a feeling for what we are feeling and trying to convey.

he's adorable, and getting so big!! beautiful photos!

I think babies are very smart little people and I am sure he understood you! I always say something similar about my daughter... but it is quirky... 'Of all the bellies she could have popped into, I can't believe she popped into mine!!' Yeah, weird, right? I hope you enjoy every moment with your baby boy!

Aw, look how big he's getting! Love those cheeks :) It must be so much more fun now that he's so alert and active.
