Frankie and Alexander

Our little Frankie is in love.  She licks Alexander's toes and sniffs his head whenever she gets the chance. She's the first in the nursery when Alex cries late at night and she sits under the nursing chair while he feeds, as if ready to pounce on anyone who dares intrudes.
It is such a relief and a blessing. Frankie had never been exposed to babies much, so Stu and I were both understandably worried. You may recall the different things we did to help prepare her for baby's arrival months ago. When Alexander and I were still in hospital, Stu brought home one item of baby's clothing each day and gave it to Frankie, so she could get accustomed to Alexander's smell. The day we brought Alexander home, we made well sure that Frankie got the warmest, most exuberant welcome, as well as lots of her favourite treats.

It seems our efforts have paid off. Frankie seems more settled than she's ever been. Maybe being "big sister" to little Alex has given her a real sense of responsibility. We can't wait for Alexander to grow bigger so he can play with Frankie. I think there's nothing more wonderful than having a furry friend to grow up with, don't you agree?

You two are such wonderful parents to prepare your little dog :) I'm sure he is so sweet as it is, but how thoughtful to go through that months ahead. I'm sure your Alexander and Frankie will become the best of friends! <3

Our boys loved their pets! In fact, now are both grown men--and are such animal lovers. I truly believe having pets helped to make them the sensitive, caring adults they are. :) T. http://tickledpinkwoman.blogspot.com

That is SUCH good news! You obviously did your homework and the hard work paid off. I wonder how Frankie will take to the ear pulling stage?! I'm sure they really will be best friends.

OMG what's better than either a baby or dog by themselves is a baby and dog together!! This is my dream - when I eventually have a baby - is for my baby and dog to be the best of friends. It melts my heart. I'm so glad things are working out perfectly for them, they've got many years ahead! And I'm glad you took the right steps (and shared them with us) about how to integrate baby with dog! :)

O I agree! Kipper keeps wanting to lick Jacob's toes and fingers (I have to say no to the fingers, since Jake is at that age now where he keeps mouthing his hands!). Too much cuteness in this post :)

The buttocks of the dog and the buttocks of the baby are very dear.

Oh my gosh! Dog and baby love is just the best! Our son is much older now, and our first born dog is now longer with us (when our current dogs are bad, we tell them that they could never live up to how good SHE was!), but Phoebe, our pup, always knew when our son woke up well before we did.

It took some adjusting though. For awhile, every time we left the house she would go in his room and pee. We were so sleep deprived in the beginning that it took forever for us to realize that we could just shut the door! ;)

So sweet! I have noticed that pets seem to love little children most of all. I think it's a size thing but also because they're so innocent.

Great preparation. We used to have a neighbor once who didn't prepare their dog before the coming of their baby and their puppy fell into bouts of depression and jealousy. I think it's a wonderful thing what you did.

Hi Trishie,
Congratualations on the birth of Alexander. I'm sorry it's been so long since I last visited. It lovely to see that Frankie is completely taken with Alexander too. There is nothing like growing up with a furry companion.

Oh yes...it's such a loving thing to watch them play. You got to watch out for Alexander too. I saw my cousin sister got mad at her older sister's doggie and pulled the poor poodle's hair and ears when she got mad at the poodle. Poor poodle ran and hide! LOL! That little girl was only a year old. Now she's 5. How time flew by.

So cute! I'm so glad that Frankie has accepted the baby. I know it can be a hard transition for some pups! I grew up with kitty who adored me (and vice versa!). She'd appear out of no where whenever I cried and would come and lick my face. Maybe she just liked the taste of salt, but I like to think she thought she was comforting me.
