From garden to kitchen: lavender lemonade

Spring has brought lavender blooms to my garden! And because I know for certain that these flowers are chemical free, I've decided to have a go and use them infused in my lemonade.

This is a thirst quenching treat with a flowery twist. And it's really not as strange as it sounds; the lavender taste is mild and just gently lifts the overall flavour. It's fairly tart, which is how I like my lemonade and is perfect for sipping as the temps keep rising and rising.
Lavender lemonade (makes 500ml)
Ingredients

10-12 fresh lavender flowers, washed and pat dry
1/4 cup agave nectar 2 cups boiling water
Fresh lemon juice from 2 lemons
1/2 cup ice

Method

1. In saucepan, pour boiling water over lavender and allow to infused for ~30 minutes.

2. Strain the lavender infused water and add agave nectar and lemon juice. Stir well.

3. Pour into pitcher or jug and add ice. Serve chilled.

Sounds lovely for sitting outside under the pergola on a warm evening. I haven't actually seen agave nectar before. Can you get it at the supermarket? Have a great weekend Trishie! sparkle2day.com

I only recently tried lavender in food (a cookie) and I was a little hesitant about how it would taste, or that it would be too perfume-y...but it really adds just the most perfect fragrance and a hint of that lavender flavor. I bet this lemonade is great!

Ever since I met my husband I have been obsessed with all things Lavender (it's my married name). We tried unsuccessfully to grow some lavender in our garden which was saddening, but since then nothing will grow in that spot which makes me think I'm either the worst gardener ever or the ground is dodgy. Aaaanyway, this looks lovely! I think I might need to have a little lavender themed tea party!
