Happy Mother's Day

Mother's Day has always been a bit of a non-event for me. But this year, that changed.
My mom and her mom
Ever since I fell pregnant, I  have a greater sense of respect and appreciation for my mum, as well as for all mums in general, having experienced for myself just how uncomfortable pregnancy is. When I first found out I was having a baby, I was dying to tell my mum; I knew just how happy she would be and I yearned to hear her stories of pregnancy and childbirth. When I was feeling sad or sick especially during those first few months, she was the person who gave me the most comfort, even if it was a just quick chat on the phone.

I also noticed that I had almost immediately developed a great sense of protectiveness towards my unborn child. I now understand why my mum does or says certain things and why she still tries to mother me. I think for a lot of mums, this comes instinctively, and probably doesn't ever go away.

Yes. This year, Mother's Day carries that much more significance to me. I look forward to Sunday, when mum and I have our weekly phone conversations. I look forward to hearing her nag at me to eat well, rest well. I look forward to her weekly gossip updates or simply chatting about nothing in particular.

Happy Mother's Day, you all.

I couldn't agree more. Nothing helps a woman appreciate her mother like becoming a mother herself.

Lovely post.

A lovely post,
It's not easy being a mother and wanting to protect your babies!
my oldest drove to Sydney from here yesterday 8hr drive and I worried the whole time! Thankfully he arrived safely- now I just have to worry about the drive home!

Aw, that was so thoughtful and heart felt. It's good you see your mother as your protector..she will always be there for u, as it is instinctual. I have a better appreciation for my mother as I get older and seeing all that she sacrificed so I would have a better life...that's why I never know what to get my mom for Mother's Day. She's worth way more than just gifts.

So beautifully written, Trishie. The older I get, the more I understand the sacrifices my mom made for me and my brothers. I don't think I'll ever fully understand until I'm a mother myself, but I have so much love and respect for all mothers :) You are going to be such a wonderful mom, Trishie!

Happy Mommy's Day!

Isn't it crazy the hormones and the urge to protect? I remember when I was pregnant I did a lot of I am going to be this type of mother and be completely different then mom.. but now I am realizing more of her choices. Yes she is a great mom but I am going to be a different mommy and the best I can be.. :)

Lovely post, Trishie. When you become a mother your admiration for your own will be all the more - it was for me, anyway. And next year you'll hopefully be receiving flowers, cards and breakfast in bed. (Aim high!!) xx

So beautiful, nothing like a connection between a mother and daughter. No matter how old we will get, in the eyes of our Mothers we will still be their babies :)

I"m not a mom myself yet, but I worked with a lot of moms and that's when I developed a sense of appreciation for them... and how important it is to consider their needs when planning meetings (especially during evening or making sure not to schedule them when they need to go pick them up). there were many instances when young people would look down on pregnant women or working moms.. as if they were a burden.. as i get older i have more sense of respect to moms. and i too hope to become a mom one day! Happy Mother's Day!
