Baby's first gift

I've been under strict instructions from Stu to hold off buying any baby things until our home (namely, bathroom) renovations are complete. But one look at this children's book set and I was so smitten, I just had to bring it home.
I know. It'll be years before baby will grow big enough to pick up a book and start reading. But reading is a hobby instilled in me from a very young age (thanks to my parents), which I still enjoy tremendously. It brings me to magical lands and faraway places where candy grows on trees and fairies and gnomes dance around a toadstool. Reading has brought me so much enjoyment and allows my imagination to run wild, I want my baby to grow up to experience the joys of reading for him/herself too.
Did you enjoying reading as a child? What will you or did you buy for baby's first gift?

This is such a great find! I would love to purchase this now and I'm not even pregnant!
I love the notion of helping my child(ren) read. I loved reading as a kid (and still do now!) so I would love to pass this on!

That is a beautiful book set. What gorgeous colours.

I was and am a huge book reader, so I would have loved to have those books growing up.

I love it. My baby has tonns of books. I can deny myself books but not her. She has a shelf full of board books she plays with and pretends to read (she's 16 months old) and in her closet I keep all the books I'm saving for later.

I loved reading growing up and still love it. I have so many books set aside for my daughter when she gets a tiny bit older. I think it's because I can't wait to show her how much imagination and magic are held with in books :)

Oh, those are just amazing! I love it.

I have decided, years ago, that whenever I discover that I am pregnant... I will go out each month and buy a new baby book. A child can never have too many books. :)

Reading was very important as I was growing up. I read all of the classics and fairytale pieces. It really opens up a child's creativity and imagination.

What a beautiful collection of books! I was completely addicted to reading as a child (I wish I had more time to read as an adult). My favourites were Enid Blyton (every single thing she wrote), The Wizard of Oz, The Baby Sitter's Club (hey, it was the 80's after all!), The Wind in the Willows, Anne of Green Gables - and we had a set of children's encyclopaedias, I read every single one! That probably makes me a nerd ;)

Hi Trishie, congrats on your baby on the way. Love that book set. I have read to my children right from when they were babies. They love reading time, it encourages a wonderful imagination and they love that special quiet time with Mum or Dad before bed.

Oh, so sweet! You did it right! Well, a friend of mine bought many books to her daughter, from an early age (months old!) It happened that the girl now loooves reading, so sweet! I also had the same thing and I still love reading! So I think you did it so right! Besides, the color of the books' covers are so nice!

Excellent gift. Reading bedtime stories is great bonding moment. I'm grateful that my parents exposed me to books at a very young age. I was given an encyclopedic set and the first book that I fell in love with was an atlas for kids. It could probably be a good way to detect ones interests and inclination at an early age.

Such a precious set-I can see why you are smitten! The best gift you can give a child is the love of reading. Not only does reading take us to faraway lands, it is the training and ability to comprehend and discern. If you can read -you can become anything!

This is so gorgeous, especially the adorable colours and the way they line up so nicely in a sweet little set. I can definitely see why you bought it.

Hahaha, I'm no where near having a baby but I've already bought a few things here and there for my future children because I couldn't resist the cuteness. So I don't know how you're able to hold off! :P But that book set is too cute, and I hope your baby loves reading them all over and over again! So much so that it shows the fraying spines!

That book set is amazing! Gorgeous colours! I think reading is incredibly important, even to a baby that can't fully comprehend language yet. This reminds me of how my mother used to read to me every night before bed. :)
