Our Living Room

"A house is made of wood and stone, but only love can make a home" - author unknown

How time flies - it has been 2 and a half years since Stu and I moved into our home and yet I still constantly refer to it as "our new home". So far, I've shown you our bedroom, guestroom and kitchen. Thought it was about time I showed you our living room too.

The reason I waited so long is because Stu had to fix up the lighting as well as paint the walls and ceilings. Plus it took forever to find the perfect pieces of furniture that we both love. Without any further ado, let me present to you....the living room (TA-DAH!):
Our home is a 1960s brick home so we wanted the interior to reflect that traditional look and feel too. We made a conscious decision to part with more money in exchange for items that we simply love and must have; that's of high quality and will last decades. We ended up sourcing most of our furniture from Coco Republic, Jimmy Possum and La Maison; most of which are one-off and hand-crafted items.

We were so SO lucky to be gifted with this beautiful vintage English Oak dining table and a couple of sideboards that have been in Stu's family for over a hundred years. These pieces bear the scratches and marks of generations before us and had been lovingly restored by Stu's dad. When we first got them, Stu even excitedly pointed out the scratches that he had made as a naughty little boy.

Wow. It's stunning, Trish! I absolutely love the color choices you have made as well.

I have never truly "lived" into a home -- my husband and I have moved a lot since we got married 9 years ago. I don't think we have spent more than 3 years in one place. I am definitely waiting for the day we purchase our first house, we have spent many many nights talking about how we would design it... luckily, he enjoys design as much as I do. :)

Such a beautiful space, Trish! I love it!

Your living room is outstanding! I love the mix of pieces with all of the different textures! Wonderful work...and how absolutely awesome that you have sentimental pieces passed down to your family! I love furniture that has history and now you have a great story to tell your little one about their dad!!! Just stunning!!!

It's gorgeous! Very grown up and chic without being too matchy-matchy. I really like it. And how special to have some furniture handed down to you, full of memories. And now you can put your own new family memories on top of those as you use those pieces in your everyday life. x

Your home looks elegant and gorgeous with a homey feel to it. I admire how you've decorated it. It was only the last three years after having lived here for a decade that we've settled into a home. It's not ours, and we'd have to say goodbye to it soon but I'm glad we finally got to hang artwork and feel all settled during this period.

You have a beautifully decorated home Trish. I absolutely love the solidity, well proportioned rooms and details of the 50's and 60's era. It reminds me so very much of my (now gone) Nanna's house as well as the last house we lived in. It had an almost identical fire place and recessed walls behind it with those same lovely ceiling cornices. Love that table and couldn't help but notice that cool phone you have!

Wow! Gorgeous! Love the vintage table! I can't wait to have a place to call our first home and fill it with things to last us a lifetime. :)

Just beautiful! I love the tone on tone. So soothing, and relaxing. I bet your company feels right at home. You are a great decorator. The story about your husband seeing the scratches he had made as a child is wonderful. I'd much rather have a piece of furniture with memories like that than anything I could purchase from a store.

Your living room looks so amazing, inviting and beautiful! If only ours looked even a bit like this. I'm especially fond of the arm chairs, bird cage, rug.. Oh just so pretty, classy & cozy at the same time! :)

And so funny that you just posted this, since I was thinking about the other day (when last visited) that it would be nice to see pictures of your home. I thought it would be lovely, but this is just over any of my ecpectations! Gorgeous. AND had to take a look at the previous room posts as well. ;)

it looks absolutely amazing. I love the dining table. Beautiful. We're currently not really living in a home. We rent an apartment but aren't allowed to put anything on the walls or paint. So it's a little bland in here.

Your home is beautiful! I'm currently living with my in-laws but I'm so excited as my hubby and I had just bought a new condo to be moved in next year. I'm on the look out for home designs. How I love the bird cage! And reflecting the 1960s style is just so respectful to the house. You haven't lost the touch of modernity while at it either.
