Sydney fresh food markets

I'm new to market shopping but with produce that looks as good as this, I'm soooooooooo ready to convert.

Last Saturday morning, my friend, Rhi and I spent a few very happy hours shopping at Sydney fresh food markets, Flemington. Finally, I understand why people are willing to forsake a perfectly good weekend sleep-in in exchange for prime time shopping at the markets. The buzz and liveliness of the markets, the rows and rows of beautiful, bright fruit and vegetables, the freshness of the produce, the noise; it was all so infectious, so exciting and so much fun.

I ended up with the beautiful sweet mangoes (for $1 each!), the juiciest lychees I've had in a long while, yummy dried dates, grapes, cherries, and most gorgeous dark purple heirloom tomatoes. I've honestly never been one to get excited about food shopping, but that morning, I was simply thrilled with my purchases.

Then there's the flower markets -  filled with roses, lilies, natives. hyacinths, orchids and every other flower that was in season and at the most competitive prices I have seen. Rhi and I were like kids let loose in a candy store, oohing at this and ahhing at that. I felt the overwhelming urge to buy EVERYTHING but eventually settled on 3 big bunches of roses, and some dahlias, all at the bargain price of $11. It will be hard buying retail again!
