Sydney fresh food markets

I'm new to market shopping but with produce that looks as good as this, I'm soooooooooo ready to convert.
Last Saturday morning, my friend, Rhi and I spent a few very happy hours shopping at Sydney fresh food markets, Flemington. Finally, I understand why people are willing to forsake a perfectly good weekend sleep-in in exchange for prime time shopping at the markets. The buzz and liveliness of the markets, the rows and rows of beautiful, bright fruit and vegetables, the freshness of the produce, the noise; it was all so infectious, so exciting and so much fun.

I ended up with the beautiful sweet mangoes (for $1 each!), the juiciest lychees I've had in a long while, yummy dried dates, grapes, cherries, and most gorgeous dark purple heirloom tomatoes. I've honestly never been one to get excited about food shopping, but that morning, I was simply thrilled with my purchases.
Then there's the flower markets -  filled with roses, lilies, natives. hyacinths, orchids and every other flower that was in season and at the most competitive prices I have seen. Rhi and I were like kids let loose in a candy store, oohing at this and ahhing at that. I felt the overwhelming urge to buy EVERYTHING but eventually settled on 3 big bunches of roses, and some dahlias, all at the bargain price of $11. It will be hard buying retail again!

Do you shop at the fresh food markets too? What do you love most about it?

Wonderful pictures Trishie. Looks like you had so much fun in the market. I don't mind waking up early on a Saturday morning to visit a Fresh food outdoor market. It is so much fun and we end buying a lot of food and fresh flowers too.

I absolutely loooove shopping for fresh veggies and flowers! It is such gorgeous eye candy. The colors of nature are just breathtaking. We have a garden each year, and this year I was deciding what to plant based upon how pretty it would be! Radishes are so lovely.

I wish I could shop at farmers' markets, but alas, they are expensive in Tokyo because they're seen as better quality than supermarket produce. And perhaps it costs $$ to set up a stall in central Tokyo...It's the reverse in the US and I presume Oz as well since it's been taken straight from the farm to the consumer.

so many fresh looking things!! *A*
I love going to market too, because they sell cheap things and you won't know what you'll find there. haven't been to market since few years ago, I think I should visit it again :')

I've not shopped at Western fresh markets before and I know I would go crazy as well.

I think I would buy up all the fresh fruits and sweet flowers if I were there.

Now I feel like eating some juicy fruits. =)
