Here's a little something you didn't know about me: I attended what must be the equivalent of the American prom night in Singapore when I was 18. At that time, I was an anxious and serious teenager; prom seemed so frivolous and I wasn't too excited about it. I remember borrowing my best friend's very simple tube dress for the night, slapped on some makeup and grudgingly went along with the night.

On hindsight, I wish I could have shook some sense into my 18 year old self, ask her to loosen up and have a good time. My one major regret was not getting into the whole girly prep routine - the dress shopping, the hair and makeup; just imagine all the fun that I had missed out on.

So young girls, take heed. If you have prom to attend, please please do go all out and find yourself a beautiful gown, because the reality is, after prom, life does not present many opportunities for gown wearing at all. Take the opportunity to get dolled up, look beautiful and feel glamourous.
Cue MissesDressy.com, my new blog sponsor, whose online store is filled with so many beautiful gowns made for a glamourous prom night. MissesDressy.com provides high fashion and designer gowns for various functions: proms, weddings, galas, cocktail parties and stocks a ton of designer names including my favourites Jovani and Sherri Hill.

I've just spent a happy few hours lusting over hundreds of their dresses; I think I'm pretty partial to dresses with a bit of lace or embellishments. If I could relive the 18th year of my life, these beautiful dresses would certainly have made it to my wishlist.

What about you? What type of dress will you wear to the prom?

I like the red and the nude gown(with black embellishments). My prom was fun and memorable. I agree with you that the teenage years are meant to be fun and carefree.

OOo they do have beautiful gowns! Seriously I wish I had more gown worthy events to go to!!! I think I might just have to start going to the grocery store in one and hopefully the trend will catch on! =)

Those are some pretty dresses, to my prom I wore black. Typical of me, but I just love a hot black dress!

I totally agree. Each girl should make the most of her prom! I actually got to go to 2 proms since my boyfriend at the time (now my husband!) was a year ahead of me in school. Those dresses are so gorgeous!

This is such a good message! I know some people who came to prom wearing sneakers! I remember prom, I started the whole get ready routine around 11AM - nails, hair, dress, makeup, etc. It was a fun night but, I wasn't much of a school dance person, I just enjoyed the food honestly, that's all I did was eat.

These are gorgeous! I'm pleased to have gone all out. I remember wearing a hand-me-down teal gown that was used in a fashion show by my fashion designer uncle.. we revamped it into a different cut that would suit me. The gown won a best dressed award on prom night because the color and style were so different.

That's how I was at my prom too, Trishie. I threw everything together last minute... sigh. I love that short nude dress with the lace. I'd wear that on a normal day :)

I totally wish I had bought a cuter dress for my prom - but my prom wasn't really anything to shout about, it was just an end of school dance at age 16!

I didn't actually attend my High School Prom for a few reasons but I very happily and glamorously went to the after party that lasted up real late and I spent the night with my now boyfriend.

I think its because in singaporean schools, girls restricted of make up, wilder type parties and not really encouraged to be dressy or motivated to doll up until after secondary equals not knowing how to really 'enjoy' and 'make up' so to speak. It's not a bad thing but something I'm quite sure of.

Great advice. All those High school dances should definitely be celebrated.
