One little word 2013

This year I'm not participating in lofty grand plans, projects or resolutions of any kind. But I am planning to live by one little word - appreciate.
I don't know if it is foolish to say this, but at this moment I feel like I have everything that I have ever wished for. And I just want to sit back and appreciate it all. Appreciate my loving husband, my job, my beautiful home, my naughty pup, my family, my friends, the future ahead. Appreciate the sun and the rain, every bird, every bee. Appreciate having things to laugh about, things to look forward to.

This year will be a big year for me - I can feel it in my gut and through it all I want to sit back and appreciate.

Do you have one little word for 2013?

Foolish? -- not at all! Appreciation is such a wonderful (one of the best imho) quality & mindset to have.

What a wonderful ONE WORD to have!

Mine is "mindfulness" :)

i really like that word for this year. i must think about what word i would like to always use. probably "joy" and "thankful".

I think it´s great that you´re wise enough to appreciate, it´s so easy to forget! :-)

That sounds like a great plan!

Perhaps mine would be "grow". I know this will be a year full of change and I'll just have to make sure it doesn't spook me haha, to just believe that I will grow with it instead:)

What a simple but lovely post...And what your readers have said as their words are pretty thoughtful too..."appreciate", "mindfulness", "joy", "thankful"...hmmm mine could very well be "positivity" or if I could have three words, "be more positive" ;-)

Izzy said...

yes, to appreciate is so very important! what you have described are definitely blessings, although sometimes we get carried away with wishing for more. my word would probably be 'confidence'.

I think if you spend time appreciating what you have, you don't have time to be unhappy!
It's easy to have little lapses though! x

Appreciate is a big word for me and I think I need to take time to use it more often! I feel 2013 is going to be really different for me too and taking the time to be thankful, grateful and appreciative is part of the plan for me :-) (I've just come over from Robintail, love your blog!!)

What a lovely post - it is a good idea to sit back and be thankful for all that we have sometimes :)

It's a great habit what you're doing, taking a pause and feeling grateful for it all. There are times when I ask myself, is this it, my life's peak moment? -- it reminds me to appreciate every moment because we never know what the next scene brings and I might miss the joy of that single moment. Have a great day Trishie :)

That's a very good idea to choose one word and an excellent one too. I think many of us don't always fully appreciate what we have. I've just been enjoying some of your earlier posts and I'm pleased to be following your lovely varied blog!

'Appreciate' is such am important and strangely enough - unappreciated word! Its the best way to view life and go through each day.

Milynn {Love + Whimsy} said...

That is a great outlook! It really helps set the tone for the rest of your day when you can simply be happy with what you have. Not foolish at all!

That is a great one word to have. A good reminder :)

That is a wonderful thing. Surprisingly, we often forget to appreciate but choose to whine and complain about things instead. Looking at the world with a positive mind certainly changes up everything for the better, brighter and happier person. I have to remember to appreciate much more too. Thank you for a provoking thought :)

What a special word that is so overlooked. I need to appreciate my life more too. I need to not complain, but appreciate what I'm lucky enough to have!

My word this year is grow...I want to grow outside the box and experience life to the fullest! =)

I've been realizing that we need a loving family and a satisfying career to be happy. It may be so hard to achieve, but that's really all we want in the end.

It's not foolish at all. Everyone dreams of that, right? I know I do! So bask in it! Enjoy it for the both of us, for ALL of us! Because not everyone can achieve that. <3

Self-Worth. <--- it is one word, I checked...lol. :P. I need to tell myself that I am worth just as much as everyone else. "You are as important as other people and that you deserve to be respected and treated well. Its something I am working on, and I need a reminder of that.

Absolutely not foolish or silly at all! You should feel the way you do everyday, because everyday is another chance for you to live your dreams. Such a perfect mindset :) xx

Not foolish at all. Gratitude is very important. We must learn to appreciate the smallest things in order to make room for the larger ones I think. xo have a great week.x/Madison

this is something my kids need to learn this year...appreciation! hard to sum it up in one word, but i think this year might be "passion" for me. i want to do things i'm passionate about, become passionate about the things i have to do.

Lovely sentiments Trishie, I think I shall also adopt that as my 2013 motto. That and 'sit still for a minute and take a breath', as it's proving to be pretty bananas already...

It is not foolish at all! I think the root of a lot of our misery is ingratitude, so appreciation is key, it opens our eyes and gives us new perspectives.

Sometimes it's easy to get caught up with all the different things happening and we can easily forget just how wonderful little things in life are. Thanks for the lovely post.

Now you got me thinking what my word for 2013 is :P
