Gardens by the bay

I'm back from my holidays, which was amazing, by the way. I have stories to tell and photos to share and I'm going to start with my visit to Gardens by the bay in Singapore.

Gardens by the bay is Singapore's latest attraction and I have to say it is quite simply, out of this world.

We started off in the Cloud Forest dome, which is essentially a manmade 'mountain' covered with tropical plants that comes complete with waterfalls. All this is housed in a dome that acts as a greenhouse. It is quite the extraodinary sight; the whole time I felt like I was in a Miyazaki movie and it was every bit as enchanting and magical to walk around and on the bridges, looking at the gorgeous orchids, ferns, pitcher plants and other fascinating vegetation I did not recognise.

The garden also features the Flower Dome, which is a beautiful indoor garden showcasing plants from various parts of the world. It didn't wow me as much but it was still a very pleasurable experience looking at the Mediterranean plants, flower fields and succulents.

Then there was the Supertree Grove outside. These metal trees stand at 25 to 50 metres high and are just magnificent. Metal trees! Who came up with that?! The trees are linked via a walkway and we would have loved to go for a walk but it was far too hot. Stu and I drove past the gardens one night and saw that the Supertrees were all lit up in bright lights. It was beautiful. We plan to go back for another visit next time we return to Singapore, in the evening perhaps. And I most definitely want to go back into that Cloud Forest dome again.
