Where does your dog sleep?

Before we brought Frankie home, Stu and I came up with all these rules about how we are going to raise this furbaby. 'No dogs on furniture!' was one such rule. Clearly we're doing a great job enforcing that.
But it wasn't always like that. For the first couple of nights, Frankie was confined to the laundry room, in her own bed. She cried and whined and barked and cried again. We ignored her cries for all of 2 nights but then became so wrecked with guilt we decided to give her access to the kitchen and the hallway as well. Not a good move.

We soon found that instead of sleeping on her bed, Frankie decided she would sleep on the cold hard floor outside our bedroom door in the off chance that either of us would open the door to go to the bathroom and thus allowing her to dash in. We came very close to tripping over her a number of times and thought OK, we'll bring her bed into our bedroom so she can share our bedroom (but not our bed). Or so we thought.
Then winter came and in the middle of one particularly cold night, Frankie went to Stu's side of the bed, and barked really really softly, but just loud enough to wake Stu (but not me) up. Yes - Frankie knows she's daddy's little girl. And yep. You guessed it. The next morning, I woke up next to Frankie's furry little face, all happy and excited to see me.
Have you ever woken up next to a dog? The look in her eyes was just pure love. I knew I could never go back. And that's the story of how Frankie ended up sharing our bed.

Do you sleep with your dog? Is there a story behind it too?

What beautiful images! Frankie is such a cutie. Yes, our Molly used to sleep out of our bedroom but now she sleeps on her own bed (with electric blanket) next to our bed. In the morning she asks to get up on our bed which is fine but she takes up so much room! And she gets growly when you try to move her!

A familiar story in lots of ways! Our whippet always managed to get onto to the bed. We drew the line at getting in the bed with us! It's so hard to say no when they look at you with those doting eyes.
She is getting too old to jump up onto the bed now, so I have to lift her.
I could never say no to Frankie! x

oh she is such a clever little lady! :) and that face! how do you resist!!!

we had the same "strict" groundrules. but found ourselves sleeping in the living room to bend the "no dog in bedroom" rule! what cheats!

so we decided to quit pretending and let him into our room (and bed)...

till today, he jumps in for bedtime cuddles. but when its actually time to sleep, he goes into his little bed. until its time for cuddles in the morning! :)

Oh, my goodness, this is such a sweet story!
I will gladly share my bed with my dog when I own one... I had already thought about this before.
Oh, the pictures you took of Frankie are just so precious, she's a total sweetheart :)

Haha! When we just got our cat, we let her sleep in the corridor, but these days she's always with me in my bed. I like it so much better this way, even if she keeps me up a bit;)

Your dog is adorable by the way!

I don't own a dog and I wouldn't want him/her to share my bed but then in practice things would probably take the same turn as in your case... ;)

That's just too sweet! I used to have a dog, but there was absolutely no way he would have shared our bed - mainly because he was a Great Dane and there would have been no space left in the bed for any humans ;-)
Frankie looks so lovely, I don't think I could resist either... Have a lovely week xo

When we had our big dogs some years ago (Flatcoated retriever and English setter), they had a bed of their own on the floor but was allowed in the sofa. Nowadays though, since we got our sweet little Cairn lady, she sleeps ON me in our bed. Oh so very nice, especially during winter. :-)

However, if she´s dirty she has a bed to sleep on and accepts that as well. :-)

She's a sweet dog! I've never had any dog ever since. Now I want one. I hope when I finally get to own one, she/he will be as sweet as Frankie.

What beautiful photos. You can really see her personality! I grew up with an inside dog but she wasn't allowed on the furniture. My fiancé and I are planning on getting a rescue greyhound as soon as we have a backyard. I'm a lit more strict than he is. I spoil our families dogs rotten but put my foot down about dogs being fed from the table. I'm going to have a huge battle on my hands as my fiancé eats a bag of chips with "one for me, one for the dog" aargh! That's human food!!

Awww...those pics of Frankie are beyond precious! Our furbaby, Chloe, most definitely sleeps in our bed. In fact J calls it "her bed" and we are merely allowed to sleep with her in it! All 5lbs of her and everyone who's ever dog sat and succumbed to letting her in bed with them knows that she is a major bed HOG and loves to snuggle in your armpits. No use fighting it, in fact, if she's not in bed with me, I get a little sad.

The dog has her own bed in the laundry. The cat however allows us to sleep in our bed with her.

Frankie is very cute.

Well my Boxer buddy Jersey has many beds in this house. He has a bed upstairs in the living room. A bed down stairs in the den. A crate which is his "indoor doggie house" We crate trained him as a puppy worrying he would be a destructive hyper monster... turns out the silly guy never wrecked a thing but his own toys. (Thank Goodness)He likes to sleep in his crate but almost EVERY WINTER he has other plans. And since the winter chills have come upon us, he wasn't sleeping as sound as usual. And there is nothing fun about waking up at 3 a.m. to a unhappy doggie. "Pretending he needs to go outside for a potty break" So the past couple week the 65 pound baby has been in our bed ON OUR LEGS (half the time) Sleeping blissfully. Not even wanting to get out of bed in the morning. (Those supposed potty breaks no longer exist.)Every now and again I get JOLTED awake... because the brats running and barking in his sleep. *BWAHHAAH*

So if you ask me I see nothing wrong with sharing your bed with a furry friend. They are perfect little bed warmers and alot more comfy than a hot water bottle. ;) (The only problem is mine came in BIG size) ;p Yours probably takes up alot less room.

Awww what a sweet story! I let my dog sleep with me, though she prefers to sleep in her own bed until around 4am and wait for me to wake up so I can help her up since my bed is too high for her. Seriously the best thing is waking up to her cute little face.

We have a strict no dogs on furniture rule either, but everytime we leave the room, we come back and find them lounging on the couch with their heads on our expensive cushions! It's a losing battle. x

Ha ha! Our pups are the same way. The no furniture rule lasted about 15 minutes. As for sleeping, they usually sleep in crates in our room, but on weekends we all pile on the bed. It is fantastic (and a bit furry...lol!) :)

Lol, sounds like me before I got Rilla. I had tons of "rules", knowing that most of them would be thrown out. Rilla has slept in my bedroom from day one, but she prefers her own space and won't sleep on my bed (much to my disappointment. On the odd occasion that I baby sit my sister's little dog, Henry, he sleeps on my bed. There is something so nice about having a doggie's head resting softly on your feet, and waking up to their wagging tail.
To think that before I had Rilla, or looked after Henry, I thought that having dogs on the furniture was, well, kind of gross. Now I love them, although I'm sad to say that Rilla prefers the floor.

PS your pup is really cute!

Hee hee, your dog looks so blissfully happy on the bed! Our dog has his own bed on the floor on my side of the bed so i'm still able to touch him if I want to. The only time he's allowed to sleep with us is if we're camping or on a floor mattress for whatever reason. And in those rare instances I'm glad we've never buckled on the rules, because he takes up so much room and I don't get the greatest sleep (as much as I love those rare nights snuggling him)!

Frankie is so cute! Is he a long-haired dachshund? I have a dachshund and her name is Muse. She slept in our bed for the first few weeks we got her... but she made is quite impossible for us to get good sleep, she was constantly moving.

She cried and whined for the first week or so sleeping by herself... she has a crate (that we leave open) and she always goes and sleeps in there... she loves it. We thought about getting her a bed for herself when we move from our studio but for now, she loves her crate. :)

I had the same with Nico, he now has his own little 'spot' on the sofa he likes to curl up on (despite the no dogs on furniture rule!)
He has his own bed in the kitchen, though he would very much like to sleep in my bed, but he is just too big & fidgets way too much! Hehe! :)
