Frankie darling

There has been a couple of incidents involving Frankie that gave me quite the scare recently.

The first happened a few months back on one particularly gusty cold day. I pulled up into the driveway to find our side gate had been blown wide open. I freaked out thinking she must have escaped and might be roaming the streets right at that very moment. Then I went inside the house panicked, only to find her at her usual spot, waiting patiently for me to come home. The relief I felt was so immense so I took her in my arms immediately, thanking god that my precious little baby girl did not think to run away from home. I like to think it's because she loves us too much.
The second incident started just 2 weeks ago, when Stu was away in China for work. I first noticed she had vomitted on the Sunday evening, but because she was still her usual bouncy, happy self, I didn't think too much about it. Then she deteriorated. The vomitting continued and she stopped eating - she lost so much weight and was sad and sleepy all the time.

Then the wobbly legs and shaking started.

I brought her to the vet 3 times. Gastro, I was told. 3 jabs, a dose of antibiotics later, she was still not her usual self. It broke my heart.
Needless to say, it was a stressful week. I started to question everything - I took her to different vet for a second opinion. I washed all her toys and linen. When Stu got back he built a little fence around our macadamia nut tree so she wouldn't get to the nuts and shells (toxic for dogs!). I suspected tick poisoning so under the advisement of the vet gave her a 2nd application of Frontline Plus in a month because we're in tick season. I dropped her off at Stu's parents home every morning before work and picked her up at night as if she was a human real child.
At the moment, the vomitting has stopped and her appetite is back. The shakes and wobbly legs are still there, though I see (very slight) improvement by the day. But mostly she is fine. On Saturday, she was back at her usual antics; barking at possums, chasing birds, stealing our socks and being a general pain in the bum. And I couldn't be happier about that.
I now am a firm believer that a naughty puppy is a healthy puppy. I want Frankie to be naughty all the time! Do you agree?

Have you had any recent scares with your pet lately?

oh, yes! a few weeks ago my sister's dog (who comes to the office everyday, so he's like our dog, too) ran away from home. my sister was devastated, cried all night. finally, someone called the next morning after they saw one of our fliers.

hope frankie is ok! so sad when they are sick.

sick doggies are the scariest :( especially because they can't talk for themselves and tell you what's wrong.
I'm so glad yours is okay! when my beagle started to get sick i was sooo scared! he was really old though and kinda chubby. he stopped eating and eventually stopped drinking. that's when we knew he would die soon :(
it was the saddest thing but i'm glad he's happy and healthy in dog heaven now :)

Awwww...what a touching post about Frankie. I'm glad she is all better. I have felt very worried about my pet dogs who were ill when I lived in Singapore. They are fur kids!!!! Like babies with fur...seriously...and it's so sad when they feel unwell and don't jump around and beg for food etc.

AWW! She's adorable! My dog passed away last Boxing Day, and I miss her so much (she definitely wasn't a puppy anymore, don't worry). I'm in need of a puppy in my life!

Oh! It's so tough when your furbaby isn't feeling well, because they can't tell you what's wrong! We had a rough year+ a couple of years ago when our little Chloe got glaucoma & cataracts. It's just heartbreaking when they don't feel good. Hope Frankie gets better!

Poor thing. It's sad because these little animals don't have a voice to tell you what is wrong. Trained vets do what they can to eliminate whatever is bad for / wrong with the animal, most of the time by trial and error, too. Good to hear that Frankie is well again. But sometimes, getting sick is part of growing up.

Aw how sweet is Frankie. My lil pup is also Frankie and she is our furry first born- Best little thing that has ever happened to us! The worst part of them being sick is they cant tell you where it is sore. You feel so helpless :( Glad your Frankie is back to her chirpy self! :) xxx

Awwr :( I'm glad she is better!
This happened to Zeus a few months ago.. His hind legs stopped working completely and he just kept vomiting, and eventually stopped eating his food :( It's horrible to watch:(

Eventually after a week or so he was back to health and started eating small amounts and now he is 100% better

Gosh..I'm sorry you had to go through such hard times due to the 2nd incident that happen.
Well, I believe mine happen recently during Chinese New Year this year. My parents have a boxer and she's a really great dog. Although, she's 12 now and we really hope she will last longer. We love her tonnes! She hates the sound of fire crackers and during Chinese New Year, there's tonnes around my parent's home. We kept her in the shed as she loves to hide in there when she find the surrounding scary. That night I believe she must have spilled the can of tar and it was all over her body. She kept scratching it as I'm sure it annoys her and by morning we can see the fresh scratched flesh. It broke our heart and we took her to see the vet. Worse still, most of the vets are closed except for 1 near my parent's home. She saw the dog and she said nope..I can't help her. I can only use Turpentine to clean her and it'll burn her crazy. I started to panic and so did my mom. It broke my heart to see her scratching and in pain. Instantly my bf thought of WD40 which removes stain without burning our skin. That's what we did after that. Bought like 4 bottles of WD40 and started spraying it on her body and uses shampoo to clean her. Gave her some leftover antibiotics for doggies and she kept licking our face when we clean her. I had tears in my eyes by the end of the day when she looked healthy and clean.

I'm so glad Frankie is better now, my heart was beating fast as I read your post. There's nothing worse than a sick pet. Mine swallowed a very long stem of grass a couple of weeks ago which is common for where I live and super dangerous because it can cut up their insides etc. Anyway she seems to be better but I completely understand the worry! Hope you have a happy weekend!

Oh so scary, I'm glad she is okay again!

We are very worried about ticks - the first oen of the season resulted in us rushing to the vets for a tick bath. Now as well as frontline for Cooper we've got him a tick collar too, as he likes to rub up against long grass and there are possums that walk along our fence - they carry ticks. I had to pull a tick off him yesterday and it was luckily just on the edge of his fur like last time - I think the frontline and tick collar stopped it burrowing in. But always so scary when something bad happens!

Oh Trishie--your little Frankie is TOO cute! I'm sorry about her health scare but I'm SO glad she is ok! I understand how it feels to constantly worry though. My dog used to be sick a LOT (knock on wood). We finally found out that she had kidney stones, but before we did, it was a NIGHTMARE--she was in so much pain ALL the time and I felt so powerless to do anything. She also is allergic to EVERYTHING (poor dear) and every once in awhile (like 2 weeks ago) she'll eat something weird like a bee or a peanut and go into anaphylactic shock :/ Ahhh! Dogs--they have us wrapped around their little paws! :P

Agh it's so awful when our hairy children are sick. My dog was very sick a few years ago and it was such a stressful time. Even with the inability to speak the same language, I feel he always knows we're trying to look after him. He never resists. Oh, sniff, might need to go give him a hug now! Thanks for the wedding anniversary love!

Poor puppy! My biggest fear is mine getting out of the yard too! My heart pitter patters at the thought of it.

I hope she's still getting back to her normal self after the sickness. She's a doll. Give her a head srcatch for me ;)

Had to come back to this post and leave my comment..
First of all, she's adorable (I want to snuggle her, right now!).
Secondly, what's the reason we get so attached to them? It's painful, isn't it? But, that's real love!

Btw, I'd love to hear more about Frankie's tales on your next posts :)

xoxo
