The Louise - Barossa Valley

I turned a year older last week and celebrated with a trip to the Barossa Valley. And because it's Spring, there were pretty flowers everywhere and beautiful fields of canola - the perfect backdrop.
Vineyards at The Louise
We stayed at The Louise and it is just gorgeous. On arrival, we were greeted with the news that we have been upgraded to their top of the range Seppeltsfield Suite, what a lovely surprise! And a wonderful start to our holiday.

The Louise has to be the most comfortable and luxurious home away from home ever. There's the private sunny courtyard where we had breakfast, the spa bath, indoor and outdoor rainshowers, not to mention the huge, comfortable bed that I struggled to get out of. And you know what? Because breakfasts were served daily in our suite at our preferred time, one morning I decided I wouldn't get out and had breakfast in bed. Love.
Breakfast in bed
We dined at the on site restaurant Apellation on the first night. I thoroughly enjoyed the locally sourced, fresh food which was just delicious and would have happily gone back every other night if not for the fact that there were other good restaurants we wanted to dine at.

As it turned out, there are some seriously good restaurants in the region. My other favorite dining experience was a luxuriously long lunch at Hentley Farm wines. The food was amazing and so beautifully presented plus the views was amazing, so Stu and I were contented to just sit back and relax. Four hours and 10 courses later, we finished our 'discovery' degustation lunch...just in time for dinner too!
Discovery lunch at Hentley Farm Wines
Because we were in Australia's oldest wine region country, we indulged in lots of wine drinking and tasting and buying. The highlight for us was making our own very own wine blend at Penfolds. Shiraz, Grenache, Mouvedre = So. Much. Fun.
Our very own wine blend at Penfolds!
I know its starting to sound like Stu and I did little else but eat and drink but we did manage to fit into our busy schedule, a trip to a lavender farm and I even snuck in a bit of thrifting at the many charity stores we came across but I will save that for another post.

Looks like you had an amazing time at Barossa. Great way to celebrate your bday. I didn't end up visiting Hunter Valley, and instead took a detour to Newcastle.
