Spent the last few days playing tourist with a friend from out of town. I haven't visited the usual sights for a while and was pleasantly surprised to find myself enjoying Sydney from a fresh 'touristy' perspective.
Sydney is a fabulous city, but I have spent so much time whinging
about the bad traffic and living my routine everyday life, I had
forgotten just how much this city has to offer and how beautiful harbour is.

In my opinion, no trip to Sydney is complete without a visit to the
Sydney Fish Markets for a spot of seafood feasting. So that was one of our first stops, naturally.

Next stop, the
Museum of Contemporary Art (MCA); I don't actually know anything about art but there is something very soothing about walking quietly around the galleries looking at installations and pretty things on walls and reading to find out what they are all about. Some of the artwork throw me a little - they can be quite out there and abstract. But I guess it wouldn't be called contemporary art without a bit of abstractionism.

The Sydney Opera House is (of course) an absolute essential, but even more so during the
Vivid Sydney festival. The sails not only light up, they are a backdrop to an animated light show that had me memorised. Pretty much the whole city lights up during this festival; it is simply wonderful and vibrant to be amongst the hordes of people soaking up the great energy. Very highly recommend.

So that's what I have been up to in the last few days; this time tomorrow, I will be on my way to play tourist for real at the Sunshine Coast in Queensland. Have a great day ahead and see you in a week!

Thanks for sharing your hometown. I tend to take Hawaii for granted, too, and often forget all the reasons why we live Hawaii! Have a great vacay!
