12 things: host dinner parties

Ever since I was a little girl, I thought one of the most grown up thing a girl can do is to own fine china and throw a dinner party. So last year, after Stu and I bought our own home, I ran out and spent a small fortune on this dinner set with this cutlery set as well as this teapot. Oh, it makes me so happy when things are matchy matchy.
The next done thing was to throw a dinner party! Which I did on the weekend.

I had so much fun setting the table and cooking up a little storm for my guests. I practically spent all day in the kitchen preparing the meal, which is something I love doing anyway. Few things pleases me more than enjoying good food and fine wine with my favourite friends.
Entree was a french onion soup that I made from scratch. With some cheesy toast on the side, yum.
Followed by pork with an autumn slaw, which received rave reviews. The slaw consisted of stewed beetroot, red cabbage, onions and apples, all wonderfully caramelised in vinegar and brown sugar. The explosion of the sweet and tangy flavours of the slaw and the saltiness of the pork was perfect.
Dessert. My favourite part of any meal. I made a cake made of mixed berry and yoghurt, which I so lamely named My Berry Nice Cake when quizzed by my guests. Don't worry, I'll be sharing the recipe in a later post.

It looks like an amazing dinner party. The table was set so beautifully and the food looks so good!! That berry cake looks so yummy, I can't wait for you to share the recipe.

I managed to keep the Sally Hansen nail polish strips on for 12 days but the tip wear shows very quickly and it was very chipped by the time i took them off. I would say they did look pretty good for over a week.

Very very nice setting! Puts my dinner party to shame :P Would you be interested in hosting more dinner parties.. especially for strangers? :) I'm involved with Strangers for Dinner (www.strangersfordinner.com), where we help strangers make friends over dinner parties. I would love to chat with you, to see what you think about hosting?

Cheers!
