Currently we are growing a variety of herbs, including sage, coriander, oregano, thyme, basil and mint, as well as okra, rocket, spinach, chillies and tomatoes.
The first of the tomatoes are just ripening and there are still plenty more to come, judging from the flowers on the plant.
My chilli plant, having survived years in apartment living has just blossomed in the vege patch, producing bigger and much more chillis than ever before. It's amazing what plenty of fresh air and room to grow can do.
I'll admit, the reason I wanted to grow a vege patch this year as part of my 12 things is because I have been awestruck by cooking shows where the chef so nonchalantly goes out to the kitchen garden and picks out a few things to cook with.I've always wanted to be able do that myself. And I totally did! When life throws basil at you, make a mean pesto (and a paperbag snapper dish)! And let me tell you, homemade pesto smells and tastes absolutely sensational and is a beautiful bright green.

Do you have a vege patch? What are you growing at the moment?

I had until one or two burrowing animals eat 'em all. I never had any problem before until the other year. I'll have another fresh patch this year and is planning to secure it.
Thank you so much for stopping by! You have your own farmer's market at your own disposal...enjoy!
oh that's so exciting!! I had a little vegie patch for a while... I should really get around to planting some more vegies. it's such a great feeling to just head outside and pick whatever herbs you need for your dinner :)
I ADORE YOUR VEGIE PATCH! I had an organic coriander plant but then one day it just suddenly died!! :( Yours looks magnificent!
xx
I have a brown thumb so no vege patch for me! T_T Yours looks fantastic :D
Hi Trishie, I left you a reply on your comment lately.
I don't have any vege patch but it's my dream to have one in our backyard and a flower garden in the front yard, just like in my parents house. But unfortunately, I can only have a summer garden, since winter in Russia takes most of the months in a year.
That must be exciting to gather your own grown vegetables just before cooking. Enjoy! :)
wow!! love it!!!

i remember having one as a little child, but sadly it's long since wilted! yours looks fab though! x
Impressive vege patch! I'd love one but that would be pretty tough in the middle of NYC.
oh my gosh that looks DELICIOUS. ah i am so jealous. i have no talent with gardening, back when we owned our home, we had this adorable garden box along the front side of our house with pink flowers and bushes. by the end, we dug it all up and filled it with rocks. i think our neighbors (both took time and had beautiful flowers) may have hated our gnome filled rock paradise, but i'd do it again and again.
still, i wish i had the green thumb you have!
That is so exciting! One day, when I live in a house and not a New York City apartment, I'll have a garden of my own :) Someday!
Oh my gosh! I really suck at growing things =[ Wonderful vege patch! and your pesto looks amazing! <33

Your garden looks absolutely lovely.
I love growing vegetables in the summer. My fave to grow is pepper plants.
(Okay really it's pumpkins... but I am NOT ALLOWED anymore as they take up the whole darn yard and I am the only one who thinks they are magical.
I'd love nothing more than to have a vegie patch! I'd definitely love to have chilli, lemons, limes, tomatoes and as many herbs as I could manage just to begin with.
One day!
Ohhh.... that looks great. I wish I had time to grow some veggies of my own. ♥
Paper bag snapper sounds delish, Trishie.
In awe of your culinary skills!
